On the 24th April 1916 Kildare born Sir Ernest Shackleton and five other men sailed 800 miles from Elephant island to South Georgia island in a 22.5 foot lifeboat called The James Caird.
To achieve this incredible voyage they relied on a number of objects. This unique handling collection allows you to get up close and personal with some replica objects that they used. Additionally you can dress up like a polar explorer from the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration and get your photo taken with our full scale replica of the James Caird lifeboat.
The handling collection and polar dress up is located on the ground floor of the Shackleton Experience and while the exhibition is free, standard admission prices into the Shackleton Experience do apply. To avail of the best available rate please pre-book online through our website.
