Join the Westmeath Archaeological and Historical Society for a guided tour around Rathconnell Hill. Explore its various monuments which include two barrows, a medieval church, two castle sites and a ruined Georgian mansion called Rathconnell Court. The hill was also the site of a notable battle in 1643 between English Royalists and the Irish Confederate army.

Local historian Jonathan Raleigh will lead the talk and will discuss his theories on the hill's ancient connections and how Ruba Conaill, a fort that once belonged to a King of Meath that is the source of the townland's name may still exist atop the hill hidden in plain sight. Seamus O'Brien will discuss the role that Rathconnell Court served in the Great Irish Famine.

The event is outdoor only and it is recommended to bring suitable footwear and raingear if necessary. The event is not suitable for those with mobility issues. Car parking is available.
