Join us for a guided walk along the scenic Knockduv Loop in Ballinaboola on Saturday 15th August, 2.30pm – 4.30pm, as part of Heritage Week 2026. Set within the wider Ballyhoura region, this immersive event offers a unique opportunity to learn about local peatland landscapes and discover their rich ecological and cultural significance.

Led by experienced facilitators from Nature Network Ireland, in partnership with Ballyhoura Development, this walk forms part of the ‘Peatlands and Communities Visioning Project 2026.’
As you follow the Knockduv Loop, you’ll gain insight into how peatlands function, their role in supporting biodiversity, storing carbon and regulating water systems, as well as their deep connections to local heritage and community life. Through guided discussion and interpretation, participants will learn about current conservation efforts and the importance of protecting these valuable habitats for future generations.
This event is designed to connect people with place, encouraging a deeper understanding, pride and long-term stewardship of our natural heritage. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, local resident, or simply curious, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience the hidden value of peatlands in this interconnected special area of conservation.
