What?
A Heritage Week outdoor charcoal drawing event. Participants to be shown basic charcoal drawing technique, and encouraged to explore the abbey and identify a suitable feature or carving to sit near and capture in their charcoal drawing.

Who?
This informal event is open to any member of the public who would like to have a go at doing their own charcoal drawing of some of the wonderful stone carving or other features to be found in the abbey. The event is open to all ages and abilities. Children will need to be supervised by an adult.

Why?
To reflect the Heritage Week theme of 2025: Exploring or Foundations by facilitating participants to look more closely at the stone structure of Sligo Abbey, particularly its stone carvings and to appreciate the fundamental role of the Abbey in the development Sligo.

How?
Basic materials and a clipboard will be available, but you are welcome to bring your own art materials, of any type, to use on the day. There will be some sheltered areas at the Abbey in the event of rain.

The finished drawings will be hung with clothes pegs in a pop-up gallery and photographed as a means of recording the outdoor ‘Abbey art gallery’ of the work done.
