Glenary Heritage Walk

A Hands of Heritage event by Tipperary Museum of Hidden History for Heritage Week 2026.

Join us for a guided walk through the historic landscape of Glenary, exploring one of Clonmel's most significant vernacular heritage sites.

The walk will examine the relationship between the landscape and traditional rural life, exploring local history, archaeology, biodiversity and the craftsmanship that shaped everyday life in the area. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how communities worked with locally available natural materials to build, farm and live sustainably.

We begin the walk at the carpark of Carey's Castle, about 4km from Clonmel off the Dungarvan road. This is a guided and mindful hike, led by Neil Dennehy, to the deserted village of Glenary (described as ‘a green museum to a departed era’) providing a unique opportunity to explore a historically significant site.

The event is part of Hands of Heritage 2026, Tipperary Museum of Hidden History's award-winning programme celebrating traditional skills and living heritage.

• The walk covers uneven ground. Please wear suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.
• Suitable for ages 12+, though primarily intended for adult audiences.
• There may be a photographer present taking photographs for promotional purposes.
