Fore Junior Archaeologist Challenge
Join archaeologists Róisín and Tara as they try to find out more about Fore in County Westmeath. This special place, known for its seven miraculous wonders, has a very long history stretching back thousands of years. It is full of incredible archaeological sites, including a medieval abbey, a walled town and the site where St Feichín built his monastery over 1,500 years ago. The archaeologists are trying to discover more about these ancient sites and need help measuring, recording and uncovering more information!
This is a drop-in workshop, and participants will be encouraged to explore the medieval abbey as well as St Feichín's church and graveyard. This involves crossing a busy road so children must be supervised at all times by an adult.
Registration for the event will be at the abbey car park, and a small bag of equipment will be provided to each participant. The workshop will take place from 11.00 - 1.00 pm, so drop in any time between those hours.
This event is funded by The Heritage Council via The Irish Walled Towns Network Interpretation Grants Scheme 2026 and Westmeath County Council.
