Flax - Threads of Time

16 August, 10am - 3pm

  • The Green Dot Shop & Café
  • 42 Pearse St, Clonakilty, Co. Cork
  • P85PY84
  • Co. Cork County

For Heritage Week 2025 step into the rich legacy of linen in West Cork with Flax – Threads of Time, an immersive and interactive exhibition celebrating the story of the extraordinary biodiverse plant that is flax — its past, present, and future.

In 1824, over 10,000 people were employed in the linen industry around Clonakilty (Southern Star, 1938).

This engaging exhibition brings our textile heritage to life, and looks to the future, a kind of love and immersion of all thing’s flax through art, storytelling, and hands-on experience.

Exhibition experiences:
Watch flax grow. Weave on our community loom to help co-create a unique piece of West Cork linen. Air your linen and flax stories. Read flax memories from the community. Learn about future flax.

Come discover, connect, and contribute — Flax – Threads of Time is a celebration of craft, culture, heritage and community.

In collaboration with Kathy Kirwan - Eco Social Artist and Flax Enthusiast (www.instagram.com/kathykirwan_theartofnature).

The building is wheelchair accessible (from the front) but the exhibition itself is on a raised platform with 2 steps to access it.
There is a public parking at the back of the café (please note: there are steps at this entrance).

There are toilets on the premises.
Several buses from Cork stop at the bus stop just outside the building.
