Flax Lín Clonakilty – Growing a local Heritage Walk & Flax Demonstration
Thursday 20th August | 10:00am – 12 pm
Join us for a guided heritage walk celebrating Clonakilty's rich flax and linen history. Visit community flax planting sites, planted in related historic locations throughout the town, while discovering the story of the Clonakilty Flax Industry.
Flax planting sites Route:
Start at Bennett's Mill Field, Western Road P85 FT68, then walk/travel to Fernhill Gardens, West Cork Regional, Clonakilty Museum, Clonakilty Old Fire Brigade Station, Old Linen Hall, and Croppy Quay, before returning to Bennett's Mill Field (in this order).
The event concludes with tea and homemade buns, followed by a live demonstration, and opportunity to use, heritage flax processing tools.
Accessibility:
The full route is wheelchair and mobility accessible.
Good walking shoes advisable.
Parking: Best to park at Kent Street public Car park P85 XD95. No parking available at Bennet's Mill Field.
