The Kilmallock Historical Association event for Heritage Week 2026 is based on the heritage of our medieval walled town as expressed through the eyes and talents of our young, diverse, school-going generation.

In order to foster their awareness, appreciation and concern for our vulnerable built heritage we invited 6th Class Primary (Scoil Mocheallóg) and 2nd Year Post-Primary (Coláiste Iósaef) students to participate in an art poster competition entitled "My Favourite Historical Building or Place in Kilmallock is..."

Students were required to include interesting facts about their chosen subject. They showed engagement and real creativity in their depiction of their chosen building or place. In recognition of the high quality of the entries, we are hosting an exhibition of all the entries in Kilmallock Library during Heritage Week (18th to 22nd August).

The exhibition will be officially launched on Tuesday 18th August at 6.00. p.m. This is an inclusive event which will involve students, parents , educators and the wider community.

This event is part of our initiative to revive the publication of the Kilmallock Historical Journal in autumn 2026. We intend to incorporate exemplars from the exhibition in the journal. We are currently compiling a wide selection of articles on the cultural heritage of Kilmallock, its townlands and its people.

Library may close for lunch or between 5.00-6.00pm.
