  • Co. Louth

Join the Louth Heritage Officer for a quirky and fascinating guided walk tracing the circuit of Drogheda’s medieval town walls—once the largest walled town in Ireland! While we can’t follow the exact line, we’ll stay as close as possible.

This moderately challenging walk (90–105 minutes) includes steep steps, uneven paths, and busy road crossings.

Along the way, discover:

Why the Anglo-Normans came to Ireland with papal backing
Why Cromwell targeted Drogheda in his conquest
How the town’s walls withstood two sieges in eight years
The Church’s powerful role in medieval life
How trade disputes led to the unification of the two Droghedas in 1412—a union that lasted until 1899
Step into the past and explore the stories behind Drogheda’s historic defences!
