Ellen Hutchins Festival stall at the Bantry Show

17 August, 12pm - 4:30pm

  • Bantry Airstrip
  • Beach
  • Co. Cork County

The Ellen Hutchins Festival comes to Bantry Show with a range of free activities and demonstrations focussed on seaweeds and mosses. See and explore seaweed and find out how it was collected, carried, used and studied in the past. An expert will be on hand to answer questions about the world of seaweeds past and present: see a wonderful range of seaweeds and get tips on how to identify the different species. Learn about why mosses are a valuable element of biodiversity and how to protect them.

Historical re-enactor, Carrie O’Flynn, in costume of the early 1800s, will invite you to try writing with a quill pen, folding your letter and sealing it. Youngsters can get creative with an exciting nature art activity with local graphic designer Mark Wickham, or become young scientists by looking at tiny plants through a microscope.

Pick up free leaflets on seaweeds, mosses, lichens and trees and browse a range of books to buy on the botany of inner Bantry Bay.
