Dr. Dan Ryan - From Corrin Hill to the Blackwater: Discovering the Hidden Story of our Local Catchment
A family friendly event exploring the the hidden connections between, water, nature, history and community in the Glenabo catchment and River Blackwater.
From the slopes of Corrin Hill to the streams flowing through Fermoy, this engaging illustrated talk will uncover how geology, biodiversity, folklore, heritage and everyday life are all connected through one living river system.
Suitable for adults, young people and families, the event will invite audiences to see their local landscape in a new way. This will not just be a case of scenery, but a place full of local stories.
Dr. Dan Ryan is a reproductive physiologist, innovator and entrepreneur. A graduate of University College Dublin and Louisiana State University, Dan has spent three decades arguing that the health of the soil, the health of the animal and the health of the water flowing from elevated ground are inseparable - an argument now formally adopted by the United Nations as the One Health philosophy.
He is currently Chairman of Cairde Corrin, a community environmental group developing a model catchment on the Glenabo stream above Fermoy in Co. Cork, where interpretive trails bring the folklore, fauna, history and ecology of the river catchment to life for walkers throughout the year. The community App being developed for the Glenabo catchment is designed as an open platform - scalable and replicable by any community in Ireland that wishes to create the same living interactive experience in their own river catchment.
