Documenting Athlone Castle's Collection- Free workshop for teenagers aged 13-17.

Athlone Castle is hosting a free hands-on collection cataloguing workshop.
Go behind the scenes with the Athlone Castle team and discover how museum artefacts are examined, photographed, and documented. This free hands-on workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn about museum collections, heritage preservation, and the work involved in protecting cultural heritage.

During this workshop, teenagers will gain behind-the-scenes experience of museum work, learn how to safely handle museum artefacts, complete a condition check, and follow the steps involved in creating a catalogue entry. They will also have the chance to measure and photograph objects before contributing to the final documentation process. The completed records will then be added to Athlone Castle’s digital catalogue and made accessible online.

Through these workshops, Athlone Castle hopes to raise awareness of the care, responsibility, and expertise involved in preserving museum collections, while also encouraging the public to explore Athlone Castle’s digital collection and other local, national and international collections available online.
