Restoration of the Gates and Railings at Liss Church
Liss Church is a classic hall-and-tower church, built for the Church of Ireland around 1820, but now disused. The tower faces the road, flanked on either side by curved railings, which are being repaired in two phases using traditional techniques, with funding from the Heritage Council. The railings are of wrought iron, set on a stone plinth, with gates on each side adjoining the tower. Conservation architect Richard McLoughlin and blacksmith Brendan St John will describe the challenges involved in repairs completed on the western side in 2024, and in ongoing repairs to the eastern side. There will be sections of railings before and after restoration on display. Tools used in the restoration process will be on site to view.
There will also be a brief history of the church and cemetery.
Refreshments will be served afterwards,
