Discover 400 years of history at Elizabeth Fort during this special National Heritage Week event. Built in the early 17th century on a commanding site just outside Cork's medieval walls, this star-shaped fortification has played many roles throughout its long history, including military barracks, convict depot, food depot during the Great Famine, Royal Irish Constabulary station and, most recently, a Garda Station until 2013.

Join our guides as they bring the stories of Elizabeth Fort to life, exploring the fort's changing uses and its enduring importance to the history and heritage of Cork City. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore one of Cork's most significant historic landmarks and enjoy views across the city from the fort's walls.

Free guided tours will take place on Saturday, 15th August 2026 at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Advance booking is required as places are limited.

Come along and discover the fascinating history of Elizabeth Fort, one of Cork City's most important historic sites.
