Designing Delft: Children's Craft Workshop

16 August, 1:30pm - 3pm

  • National Museum - Collins Barracks, Museum Reception Area
  • Collins Barracks , Benburb St, Dublin 7, D07 XKV4
  • D07 XKV4
  • Co. Dublin – Dublin City

Delftware is a wonderful example of how ideas, crafts and traditions can travel between cultures. Inspired by Chinese porcelain, Dutch potters created their own blue-and-white ceramics, and the distinctive style later spread across Europe, becoming instantly recognisable.

In this workshop, visual artist Mirjam Keune will explore Delftware in the collection and guide participants to design their own decorative pieces. Using paper, pencil and blue paint, you can recreate the look of traditional Delftware while adding your own creative touch.

Will you be inspired by the original Chinese and Dutch designs, or will you give your Delftware a modern twist with images and patterns that are meaningful to you?

All materials provided, just bring your creativity! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Suitable for ages 5 - 13. Pre-booking is required.
