Derralossary Work Party

Join the United Friends of Derralossary on Saturday 22 August, from 10.00am–4.00pm, for a Heritage Week work party at historic Derralossary Church and Graveyard. Come along for an hour, an afternoon or the whole day – every pair of hands is welcome.

The event is part of the continuing community effort to care for, understand and protect this important historic site. Volunteers will help with general churchyard maintenance and are encouraged to bring a strimmer, rake, hoe or lawnmower if available.

This year also marks an important step forward for the conservation of Derralossary Church. Under the Heritage Council’s Community Heritage Grants Scheme, the site has received funding towards the preparation of a condition report for the church and belfry, an ecological assessment and detailed survey drawings.

These studies will provide the professional information needed to identify and prioritise future conservation works, with the hope of progressing a further grant application in 2027. The longer-term aim is to conserve the unroofed church and make it more accessible to visitors, complemented by interpretation of its history and quiet areas for reflection.
