Conserving a Lost Cork Institution: The Heritage of the Green Coat School
22 August, 2:30pm - 4:30pm
- St. Anne's Church Shandon
- Eason's Hill Shandon Cork
- T23 YN88
- Co. Cork City
Join us to uncover the hidden story of Cork's Green Coat School — and meet the people preserving what remains of it: the statues of Bob and Joan that once stood outside the school and rare books from the school library, some dating back to 1599.
Shandon Area History Group will share the history of the Green Coat School and its place in Cork life. Gina Eichmuller of Eichmuller Conservation will talk about her work caring for the Bob and Joan statues. John Rooney from UCC Special Collections will explore the Green Coat School collection held at UCC and its connection to the collection at St. Anne's Church.
Also on the day: Attendees will have a chance to see the Bob and Joan statues and the surviving Green Coat School books up close. There will be time for questions with the speakers, and refreshments served. This event forms part of St Anne's Heritage Council–funded project to conserve and interpret the Green Coat collection for future generations.
