The100th anniversary of Lady Ardilaun (1850-1925) of Macroom Castle

17 August, 2pm - 4pm

  • Castle Arch
  • Town Square Macroom
  • Co. Cork County

Macroom District Environmental Group, in proudly but humbly marking its 40th year championing ecology as a way of thinking, will honour the memory of Olivia Lady Ardilaun by planting a sapling grown from the veteran specimen Copper Beech tree that adorns her 14th century park, which she entrusted for the benefit and enjoyment of the people of Macroom before her death 100 years ago.
Though discomfiting for some people, Ascendancy Ireland forms the weathering bedrock of our island's cultural memory. We trace the maternal lineage of Olivia White, Macroom's noblest benefactress, to Munster's Eoghaineacht Kingship through Jane Herbert of Muckross, Countess Bantry.
