
Charlemont and the Royal Irish Academy
On the 240th anniversary of the foundation of the Royal Irish Academy, a special tour of the Casino of Marino highlighting James Caulfeild (1728–1799), 1st Earl of Charlemont's key role in the establishment of the Royal Irish Academy in 1785. This tour lets you explore the Casino's architecture, which is a great example of neoclassical design, and learn about the history behind the Academy's creation. Lord Charlemont was an influential figure in Irish society who helped to promote the arts and sciences during a time when Ireland was going through big cultural changes. The tour will show his impact and explain the Academy's goal of encouraging knowledge and learning. It's a great way to celebrate both the Academy and its inspiring founder.
Tickets are free but must be booked in advance. Please note access to the building and its interior is via stairs which may cause problems for those with mobility issues.
