Capstones at the Carrowmore passage tomb complex
A tour of the Carrowmore passage tombs, based on recent research looking specifically at how the monuments were constructed with respect to the dolmen capstones. What was important to the Neolithic builders when constructing a dolmen? Were they following set rules and preferences in choosing and positioning the capstones, or were they improvising? Finally, might previously unidentified capstones already exist in the landscape? This tour, guided by the researchers, will try to answer these questions, and at the same time provide insights into archaeological research itself, how following a question to lead to unexpected insights.
