21 - 22 August, 10am - 5pm

  • Shannon Town Centre - opposite Dunnes Stores
  • Shannon Town Centre, Co. Clare
  • V14V090
  • Co. Clare

Bringing Heritage to the Shopping Centre invites visitors to explore Shannon's rich local heritage through a fascinating exhibition of historic photographs, archaeological sites, ancient maps, and archival documents. The display also highlights heritage under threat and the importance of its protection.

Throughout the two-day event, members of Dúchas na Sionna and the Shannon Archaeological & Historical Society will be available to answer questions, share local knowledge, and encourage visitors to become involved in preserving our heritage.

This exhibition showcases the work of two heritage organisations within the town. Shannon Archaeological & Historical Society is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary and the publication of volume 50 of its annual journal 'The Other Clare'. It hosts a schedule of summer outings and winter lectures that highlight the history, archaeology and folklore of County Clare.

Visitors will learn about the project being undertaken by Dúchas na Sionna to restore Hastings Farmhouse, a typical nineteenth century farmhouse and farm building located within Shannon Town. The farmhouse is being restored for community and heritage use. This project is supported by The Heritage Council, Clare County Council, Shannon Municipal District, Ei Electronics, The Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation, iCAN, LEADER, Shannon Archaeological & Historical Society and Club na Sionna.

Over two days, members of Dúchas na Sionna and the Shannon Archaeological & Historical Society will be on hand to engage with visitors, answer questions, share local stories, and provide information about the societies' work. Visitors are invited to learn more about their local heritage, explore opportunities to get involved, and find out how they can support heritage conservation through membership.
