Belfast Blitz Walking Tour of East Belfast

17, 21 August, 1pm - 3pm

  • 62-82 Westbourne Street, East Belfast
  • BT5 4FP
  • Co. Antrim

2026 marks the 85th anniversary of the Belfast Blitz, as we mark these milestone anniversaries every year we lose more of the personal connection to the Second World War as it passes out of living memory. Oral History is a powerful resource we can use to capture these memories and gain a glimpse into what life was like in wartime Northern Ireland.

Join us on Monday 17th August and Friday 21st August 2026 to uncover the story of the Belfast Blitz of 1941 with a FREE guided walking tour of East Belfast. This tour focuses on the experiences of those who lived through the air raids on Belfast found within our Oral History collection. These voices capture the chaos and confusion of the air raids, the danger survived as well as emphasising the devastating impact and lasting legacy of the 4 nights Belfast was 'blitzed'.

The tour will begin in Westbourne Street at 1pm (What3words- Sage.Boost.Punt), and finish at Northern Ireland War Memorial Museum at approximately 3pm. The tour will last around 2 hours in total and is over 2 miles so appropriate footwear is essential.

Booking is essential though Eventbrite as advertised on https://www.niwarmemorial.org/whats-on/events a month prior to National Heritage Week.
