Step aboard for a new edition of our behind-the-scenes bus tour through Dublin Port, Ireland’s busiest working port. Handling over €165 billion worth of freight and 1.6 million passengers annually, the Port is a vital gateway that keeps Dublin City, and the country, connected to global trade.
Tours now depart from EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, located in the historic Stack A warehouse, part of the CHQ Building.
From here, the tour begins with a drive through Dublin’s Docklands, once the commercial heart of the Port. Today, this area reflects a dramatic urban transformation, similar to redeveloped docklands in Rotterdam, Hamburg, and London, where former maritime zones have been reimagined as vibrant new districts.
The tour then enters the Port’s North Estate, offering visitors exclusive access to the restricted operational zone at Ocean Pier. Along the route, highlights include the Oil Zone, Ro-Ro and Lo-Lo terminals, MP2 development, and ferry lanes, all revealing the scale and complexity of modern logistics that ensure Irish goods reach global markets, and essential imports arrive on our shores.
The final stop is the Tolka Estuary Greenway, Dublin Port’s newest public amenity and a key example of port–city reintegration. This dedicated cycle and pedestrian route runs along the Port’s northern perimeter, overlooking the Tolka Estuary, where port infrastructure and landscaped public space now meet.
Led by Anthony Finnegan, former shore engineer and expert guide, this tour uncovers the hidden histories, engineering landmarks, and evolving role of the Port in the life of the city.
