Bat Walk in the Liffey Linear Park, Newbridge

15 August, 8:45pm - 11pm

  • The Outdoor Gym on “The Strand” in the Liffey Linear Park
  • The Liffey Linear Park, Newbridge, Co. KIldare
  • Co. Kildare

Join Kildare Bat Group & Newbridge Tidy Towns & enjoy a sunset bat talk & walk along the Green Flag For Parks - Liffey Linear Park.

The meeting point is The Outdoor Gym on “The Strand” where Anna Collins & her colleagues from the Kildare Bat Group will share their knowledge of bats in Newbridge.

The event commences on “The Strand”, where you will have an opportunity to learn all about the secret life of bats in the locality & experts from the Kildare Bat Group will answer all your questions on bat species found in the locality & indeed species from further afield.

Then join us on a short walk along the paths beside the River Liffey where you will have an opportunity to see & hear some bats while using Heterodyne bat detectors. The walk will then progress along the towpath up to the Watering Gates on the Athgarvan Road.

As a minimum we hope to observe:
Daubenton’s Bat (Myotis daubentonii);
Soprano pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pygmaeus);
Common pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pipistrellus);
Leisler’s bat (Nyctalus leisleri);
& hopefully more species on the night.

As the event takes place on the banks of the River Liffey (on tarmacadam paths), children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

As this is an outdoor event, please wear warm / suitable outdoor clothing.

Car parking – including 2 adjacent disabled parking bays on nearby public streets.
