Field trip on Lough MacNean
A collaboration between Blacklion Tidy Towns and visual artist Sinéad Curran. Sinéad's Vanishing Veins project is an ongoing work that explores wetlands that surround our lakes and rivers and their ecosystems. This event will explore the water ecosystems in and around the Blacklion area, an area which the plantation of Ulster brought significant changes that resulted in the displacement of indigenous communities and the agricultural practices which had shaped the cultural and social landscape of the area.
This heritage event will take place in and on the water. We would like to invite people to canoe with us through the lake as part of a floating field trip. Guest speakers will provide expertise on local native species and aquatic plants, including the aquatic plants and birds that are of great importance to the local biodiversity.
Following the field trip, a traditional crafts and textile workshop will take place, taking inspiration from the field trip.
