A walk through Cork City's Geological History

Interested in learning about Cork city's geological history? Want to learn why Cork is so hilly or where to find fossils?
Join along on Saturday the 15th of August at 12 pm for a 3-kilometre guided tour through key geological sites and learn how the city's landscape came to be. We start from Cork City Hall on the Anglesea St-side.
The geology of Cork is expressed dramatically on the surface of the area. Its landscape offers great views over the valleys and rivers, and occasionally, pauses in the soil and concrete give us glimpses of the secrets underneath. It is in these exposures that we can study Cork's rock layers and get a glimpse into a distant past.
Hopefully, by the time we wrap up near the Shandon Bells, you'll see the city in a whole new way!
Tickets for the tour will go on sale on www.corkheritageopenday.ie at 10am on Thursday August 6th. Though, feel free to get in touch with motion@thomasheising.ie for any questions in the meanwhile.
The tour will launch from the Cork City Council façade at Anglesea Street and continue over a 3-km adventure with 8 stops. Along we will be looking at buildings, exposures of rocks and secrets go leor across the city!
Note that we will be walking (slowly!) up Patrick's Hill at some point during the tour, so a bottle of water is recommended.
