A walk along the Sidella, Ardee Road, Dundalk

Join the County Louth Archaeological and Historical Society for a walk along Sidella Laneway in Dundalk. The walk along the Sidella traces the route from Dundalk Workhouse to Killally Graveyard that was opened in 1852. Dundalk workhouse was a poor law facility that opened in March 1842. The main structures of the site were completely demolished in 1987.

The tour leaders will be Seamus Bellew and Clare Carvill. During the walk, Seamus will discuss the history of the workhouse and the graveyard. The walk has been well maintained in recent times and is a haven for biodiversity, and there’s much flora and fauna of interest. Clare will identify and share about some of the trees and plants along the way. Along the route we will stop by St Clare’s Well. The well is associated with holding a cure for skin conditions. The graveyard has been very well maintained by a local committee since 2000. Come along and visit this important place of history and heritage in Dundalk.

The is ample space for parking at Mounthamilton, just west of Brookville Service on the same side of the road.
Leaving Dundalk, going out the Ardee Road, Mounthamilton is on your right after Brookville Service Station.
