In keeping with this years theme of ‘Exploring Our Foundations’, Ormond Castle presents a fascinating virtual tour of Carrick-on-Suir, with local and Ormond Castle Guide, Helena Power.
Carrick was one of seven walled towns in County Tipperary developed by the Anglo Normans following their conquest of Ireland in the 12th century. In medieval times, Carrick was the largest town in the county with 36 acres of land enclosed by the town wall.
Taking place on site at Ormond Castle, and using local landmarks like royal cypher decorated post boxes, Helena’s virtual tour will bring us to both familiar and forgotten heritage locations in Carrick, many of which we walk past every day, and can connect us back to many of the foundations of the town.
