  • Co. Dublin – Dublin City

Join us in the Royal Irish Academy for a lunchtime lecture by Dr Emma Murphy, Curator of Zoology at the National Museum of Ireland, about ornithologist and speleologist, Richard John Ussher (1841-1913), MRIA. R. J. Ussher was the main author of "The birds of Ireland" (Dublin and London, 1900), the first comprehensive publication about native Irish bird species. The Royal Ireland Academy is home to Ussher's archive of records, correspondence and diaries but his specimen collection was deposited in the National Museum of Ireland. Dr Murphy will be introducing this specimen collection and discussing its links with the Ussher Bird Notes collection in RIA Library.
