As part of Heritage Week, Shinrone Heritage Group invites you to a special celebration of music, memory and local heritage.

The project began with the rediscovery of the lyrics of The Pride of Shinrone, a song about Biddy Mulcahy published in Olden Times in Ireland in 1873 by Charles Smyth Vereker. While the words survived, the original melody was lost.

Through community workshops, local musicians and participants explored the song’s rhythm, structure and nineteenth-century context. Under the direction of Ruairí O’Shea, they have created a new melody for the surviving lyrics.

This Heritage Week event will see The Pride of Shinrone performed live for the first time in its reimagined form, bringing a forgotten piece of Shinrone’s musical heritage back to life.

This event is run in parallel with the talk "A Journey Through Offaly: Music, Memory and the Irish Country House" - see separate listing.
