In 12 August 1946 A Junkers 52 aircraft took off from Paris with a group of French Girl Guides, bound for Dublin, Ireland on the invitation of the Irish Girl Guides. The aircraft had twenty-six people on board, including the crew. Enroute the aircraft became lost while flying above the Dublin and Wicklow mountains and crash landed on Djouce Mountain. An epic rescue operation followed involving Gardaí, mountain rescue and many local volunteers. Miraculously all on board survived.
To mark the 80th anniversary of ‘The Miracle on Djouce’ the Heritage Office is pleased to support the production of a commemoration booklet, written by Bill Nelson, to remember and retell this remarkable Wicklow-Paris Story.
