A History of Lifeboats Around Dublin Bay

There have been lifeboats in Dublin Bay since 1802. These were run initially by the Dublin Port Authorities until they were subsumed into the R.N.L.I. in 1861.

A great many heroic rescues have been carried out throughout the whole period up to the present time. There have also been several tragedies when lifeboatmen were lost in attempting to save others. Cormac will be discussing many of these in addition to showing many of the boats that have been on station around the bay over the years. He will also be mentioning some of the crews of the lifeboats who performed during recues and describing the medals and awards that were given. He will be showing a great many rare and interesting images.

Visitor Information

Dublin Port is currently undergoing major infrastructure works. As a result, access to the Substation may take slightly longer than usual, and visitor parking is not available. Please allow extra time for your journey and, where possible, travel by public transport, taxi, or bicycle.
