Participants will be introduced to the ancient "McCarthy Oak", and plant an Irish Oak on the day.
Emparked by the once powerful McCarthys, Lords of Muskerry Barony, in 1620 and confiscated by Oliver Cromwell in 1654, and again by the Williamite Plantation in 1693. This late 13th Century "Seat", uniquely, retains the historic features and landscapes of Ireland's' former "Polite" Classes and their recreational preferences. the expansive public access through veteran oak habitat makes Macroom castlegrounds the ornament and glory of the Upper River Lee Basin.
