Wicklow as Gaeilge - Viewing our town through Irish

Deirdre Burns
Cainteoirí Chill Mhantáin

This project aims to take a different perspective on our town, one that delves into our rich Irish language cultural heritage and allows us to take a gaelicized view of our garden county town. Through various photographs of Irish already in existence in our town (and some for a very long time), and portraying them in an online photographic exhibition for Heritage Week, we may realise the Irish language has a much more prominent place in Wicklow than we realised. Taking the time to notice and acknowledge the language and connecting with it as a form of our Irish identity will possibly allow for a newer and better understanding of our connection with the language on a daily basis and also allow for a deeper connection with our Irish cultural heritage. Help us and participate in this project by submitting any photographs you may have or you may come across of the Irish language in Wicklow town. These can be on road signs, historical sites and landmarks or on buildings. A selection of the photographs received will form an online exhibition during Heritage Week hosted on https://heritage.wicklowheritage.org.
