Lecture series on the archaeology of the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project

Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, in conjunction with Roscommon County Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Archaeological Management Solutions are delighted to present a lecture series on the exciting archaeological works being undertaken on the N5-Ballaghaderreen-Scramoge Road Project, which will run over five days of National Heritage Week 2020 on the Rathcroghan Facebook page. Monday, 17th August 2020: "In the Shadow of Rathcroghan". A synopsis of the archaeological work on the N5 scheme to date and a summary of the discoveries. Deirdre McCarthy, Roscommon County Council N5 Resident Archaeologist. Tuesday, 18th August 2020: "Ancestral Places". The multi-phase site at Gortnacrannagh, where an enclosure, ring ditches, burials and burnt mound were excavated. John Channing, AMS site director. Wednesday, 19th August: "At Home in Roscommon". The built heritage surveys and excavations on vernacular structures, with special emphasis on some interesting artefacts. Eve Campbell, AMS site director. Thursday, 20th August: "Settlement & Cemetery". The Bronze Age landscape, including houses, cremations and burnt mounds excavated at Ballaghcullia (available in English/Irish). Patrick Walsh, AMS site director. Friday 21st August: "Hidden in Plain Sight". The excavation of a conjoined ringfort at Killeen East with four associated souterrains and burials.
