The history of hurling in County Galway, particularly as reported in newspapers, is a compelling one. The growth in literacy and newspapers, both prior to and post the establishment of the GAA in 1884, brought an increase in reporting. Included in the study are pictures of the various clubs sides, where available, corresponding to the various match reports shared. The many personalities and the individual stories of some are also traced. In addition, the background to various internal conflicts that threatened to derail the progress of hurling are explored. The evolution of club hurling during the first half century of the GAA in Galway, the breadth of the clubs involved, and the main personalities up to 1935 are also discussed. There will be an online lecture [free] and book [€10] launch. All proceeds will go to support Tús schemes who played such a pivotal role in the county during the Covid-19 emergency.
