Cottlestown: a townland steeped with heritage and history

Sean Gordon
Castleconnor Community Development Group (Parish History)

Cottlestown is a townland in parish of Castleconnor and the complete townland was once an estate with various landlords. Here the remains of an old O'Dowda castle still holds its shape. There is also a big house which was restored and ruins of old mill . There was a stone wall built around the complete estate during the famine and most of it is still in tact. In 1903, the estate was divided into small farm holdings. The project organisers Castleconnor Community Development Group will look at life in Cottlestown before and after 1903.
