National Gallery of Ireland
For a limited time, a window into the conservation studio of the NGI will be unveiled. Take a look behind the scenes to see conservators treating the large-scale painting; The Visit of the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon by Lavinia Fontana. The retouching stages are in progress; where new pigment is applied using reversible materials in tiny dots in order to integrate old areas of loss and damage with the remaining original paint. Visitors can see first hand how the pigments are mixed and applied and the effect of the treatment in action. The treatment and research project is supported by the Bank of America Art Conservation Fund, more information can be found at https://www.nationalgallery.ie/ga/node/2587. To facilitate social distancing time slots for this event must be booked in advance.
