Commemorating the Connaught Rangers Mutiny, 1920

Martin Morris
Longford County Library, Heritage and Archives Services

This is the centenary of the mutiny of the Connaught Rangers in India, an event that is largely forgotten about in terms of the Irish revolutionary period. It is of particular interest in Longford because a local man, Thomas Devine, was one of the fourteen participants who was sentenced to death, though the sentence was later commuted to imprisonment. Two experts, Danny Tiernan (a founder of the Connaught Rangers Association) and Hugh Farrell of County Longford Historical Society, will participate in a discussion about the mutiny and Devine's part in it. It will be recorded and made available online on 17 August.
