Martin Morris
Longford County Library, Heritage and Archives Services

The National Schools' Folklore Collection, 1937-38 is a wonderful resource for folklore, oral history and local customs, among other things. It was compiled by the Irish Folklore Commission, in partnership with the Department of Education, and was a unique project for its time. Now most of it is available online at dúchas.ie. It can be a brilliant resource for teachers, pupils and local historians alike. Martin Morris will give a brief talk during National Heritage Week on the collection and the Dúchas website, which be be available online on 19 August.
