Jameson Distillery Midleton
This heritage project aims to reveal the documentary history of the firm John Jameson & Son by showcasing some of the fascinating items in the company archive, and in turn promote pride in the history and heritage of Ireland's industrial past. The Jameson company archive is located in Midleton, Co Cork and was built in 2012 to international repository standards. By showcasing both highlights of the collection, and also its physical preservation within the Archive, Jameson Distillery Midleton hope to increase awareness of the importance of business records and perhaps encourage other companies to invest in an archive. They want to show how having access to their archive has informed the visitor experience at their brand homes in Midleton and Dublin. The organisers also wish to highlight an aspect of Ireland's industrial history that many Irish people are unaware of, the global success in the 19th century of Irish Whiskey. Archivist, Carol Quinn, will offer a pre-recorded virtual tour, which will be accessed online on the website irishdistillers.ie and the organisers social media channels. An internal resource for IDL, the archive is not otherwise open for public access, so this is an exclusive opportunity to see inside.
