For over 150 years, the historic Coal Quay Open-Air Market has been celebrated in poetic verse and song and in books and films. Every August the annual Cork Coal Quay Family Festival takes place, resonating with the nostalgia of yesteryear. For 2020, the festival can be enjoyed as a virtual experience - a beautiful film has been created with the soundtrack: 'Up The Coal Quay' - the Festival’s anthem song, that captures the spirit of this unique voluntary fun filled annual family festival that celebrates the heart and soul of Cork City – the Coal Quay. This Festival Film can be viewed on www.corkheritageopenday.ie for National Heritage Week. Supported by Cork City Council, local businesses and the people of Cork, the Cork Coal Quay Family Festival celebrates the rich vibrant colourful heritage, tradition and culture of this world renowned landmark with its great characters, the most notable of which is Kathy Barry.
