Heritage Week 2018 is all about sharing stories and making connections.  As part of European Year of Culture, Heritage Week is a chance to share heritage stories in new ways, with new people. Here are just some of the events that will be doing just that!

Sharing My Story - Begin to Tell True-Live Tales 

18 August, 10am - 1pm, Ballitore Library & Quaker Museum, Co. Kildare

Has anything worth speaking about ever happened to me? And who would listen? In this workshop we are invited to look at our past, consider what we have learned & the stories we might tell.

Sharing Family Stories

18 August, 10am - 12:30pm, Roscommon County Library, Co. Roscommon

Three guest speakers will share their family stories and guide you on how best to present your genealogy research.


Sharing Stories: The Vikings and Kerry

18 August, 8pm - 9pm, Heritage Iveragh/Oidhreacht Uíbh Ráthaigh, Caherdaniel Hall, Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry

This lecture will explore the activities of the Vikings in Co. Kerry, using sources such as archaeology, history and place-names.


Stories from Days Gone by in Ardee

18, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 August, 10am - 5pm, Ardee Branch Library, Co. Louth

Sharing Stories from Days Gone by in Ardee... A display of old photographs of the town's landmarks from a bygone era.


Sharing Stories – Folklore Untold

20 August, 10:30am - 5:30pm, Moate Library, Co. Westmeath

80 years on from the Folklore Commission, Moate Library has re-created the School's Collection, with the help of local children. A specially compiled book and exhibition will be on display for the week



Sharing Stories from the Liberties

20 - 24 August, 12pm - 1pm, Warrenmount Community Education Centre, Mill Street, Dublin 8

James Madigan, local history tutor, along with other guest speakers, will give a talk on the local history of the area from 12pm to 1pm each day in the Centre during Heritage Week. All welcome.


Sharing Stories Through Ancestry

21, 23 August, 12pm - 1pm, Ancestry Ireland Unlimited Company, 52-55 Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2

Join a journey to the past where Ancestry members share some of their unique stories, colourful characters and family tales. Learn how to make a connection using Ancestry’s tools and resources. Booking is essential as space is limited.


Sharing my Story

22 August, 11am - 12:30pm, Youghal Library, Rivergate Mall, Youghal, Co. Cork

Migrants share their stories of their decision to relocate to Ireland and Youghal.  Learn about their hopes and fears as they embarked on a new life in a new country.



Exchanging Customs and Cultures

22 August, 8pm - 9:30pm, Moylough Heritage Society, Moylough Community Centre, Co. Galway

Show me your heritage and I will show you mine. A night of sharing customs and traditions of the Irish and other nationalities living in the area.
