Heritage Challenge for Children

Search the library to find pictures of sites, monuments and icons to complete the Quest! You only have 1 hour to complete the Quest to gain your Questor's Certificate, wristband and a treat!
Heritage Hi-Jinks & Family Fun

Disney Concert for Families
18, 25 August, 1:00pm – 2:00pm – Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin
Join Judith Lyons for a special family performance of some Disney classics in the atmospheric setting of Saint Patrick's Cathedral. Dress up definitely encouraged! Free but registration required.
Teddy Bear Walk

Teddy Bear Picnic for children of all ages in Deerpark Forest Park, led by Anke from Bear Essentials, Bawnboy.
Medieval Family Day

Join us at the Blackfriary Archaeology Site for a Medieval Family Fun Day! Tours of the archaeology excavation and 'mock dig' for kids. Your opportunity to ask the excavators about their findings.
Story Scavenger Hunt
19 August, 11:00am – 4:00pm - Coole Park Visitor Centre, Co. Galway
Pick up your Map Pack from Coole Park visitor centre from 11am-4pm and follow the clues as you make your way around the trails to discover the Story of Coole.
Family Nature Walk
19 August, 11:00am – 1:00pm - Garryhinch Woods, Co. Laois
A family nature walk & talk in Garryhinch Woods between Portarlington and Mountmellick. Led by the volunteers of the Badger Club of the Irish Wildlife Trust (Laois/Offaly). All welcome.
Medieval Family Day

Join us for medieval fancy dress and hear stories of times gone by from some great storytellers.
Printfest: Family Fun Day

Join us for an afternoon full of printing activities. There are sure to be lots of interesting stories shared by the Museum’s volunteer active retired printers and compositors on the day.
Heritage Craft for Children
20 August, 2:00pm – 3:30pm - Carrigallen Library, Main Street, Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim
Heritage Children's Craft Workshop: Make and decorate your own Castle with Local Artist Julie Smith. All materials will be provided and the Event is Free to children aged between 6 and 10 years.
21 August, 12:00pm – 1:00pm - JFK Memorial Park and Arboretum, Co. Wexford
Plant pot painting and planting. Limited numbers – Booking essential. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Suitable clothing advised.
21 August, 10:00am – 5:30pm - Waterford City & County Library Service, Lisduggan, Co. Waterford
Colouring competition aimed at children aged 8 years & under. Participants are asked to colour pictures that represent cultural traditions, historical events or historic buildings.
Children’s Nature Art

Ellen Hutchins Festival event: Creative nature activities for children such as creating flower impressions on cloth, making wooden identification discs & scavenger hunt.
Become a Nature Detective
22 August, 11:00am – 12:00pm - Dunlavin & District, Market Square Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow
Join us as we go on our Bug Hunt to discover what wonderful creatures are hiding under rocks or logs. Be a real nature detective for a day and see what you can discover in Dunlavin!
Family Nature Walk
23 August, 12:00pm – 1:00pm - Roscommon County Council, King House, Boyle, Co. Roscommon
Meet at the front steps of King House, Boyle and take a family nature walk through the Pleasure Grounds beside King House, with Michael Bell from Nature Learn. This is an outdoor event, please wear suitable clothes and footwear. Children must be supervised by an adult.

The Big Dig & Poster Exhibition
25 August, 11:00am – 4:30pm - McCormack Square, Branch Library Athlone, Co. Westmeath
The Big Dig in McCormack Square offers children the chance to have a go at being an archaeologist and the library will host an exhibition of Children's posters celebrating European Year of Cultural Heritage.
Knoxpark Family Day: Viking Picnic

Scenic Knoxpark has major archaeological significance & a public art trail: it could be the site of a Viking settlement. Bring a picnic & the kids and rediscover Knoxpark via an expert guided tour
Bandon Walled Town Family Fun Day
26 August, 12:00pm – 5:00pm - Bandon Walled Town Festival, Bandon Town Hall and Historic Shambles, Co. Cork
Bandon Walled Town Family Fun Day 2018 watch history come to life in the historic Shambles area of Bandon. Our family fun day will bring history to life with battle re-enactments, falconry displays and historical Irish wolfhound will be there too. Get arty with children's pottery workshops, art workshops and face painting. Come and see our fabulous hay bale maze which will build on the day.
