Photography Competition Winners and Runners-up


This year the National Heritage Week Photography Competition  invited you to ‘Discover the Past. Build the Future.’


 We sought creative representations of how our heritage shapes our present and our future, an image linking past, present and future from your own point of view. We received many captivating entries capturing our diverse heritage through time. We extend a big thank you to all who submitted images. National Heritage Week 2013 is pleased to announce the winners and runners-up are as follows:

Winners & runners-up:

Adult Category:
- Marcin Rekawek’s photograph ‘Hold my hand, Grandpa,’ taken at Grougane Barra forest.
 Runners Up
– Tom Ryan’s ’Dublin icons’ – through the ‘eye’ of the modern Samuel Beckett bridge can be seen: Sean O’Casey Bridge (2005), the Spire (2003), Liberty Hall (1965) and the Customs House (1791).   
– Leanne Willars ’Summer street party in North inner city.’ capturing the heritage of the city where “The ruffians of Richmond Cottages” dwelled in Joyce’s “Dubliners.”
Youth Category: 
– 16 year old Ronan Hearne’s photograph capturing ‘the shading and differing textures in his subject; an old canal bridge.’ 
Runners Up
– 15 year old Peter O’Donoghue’s photograph of a luminarium turret in front of Kilkenny Castle turret!
– 14 year old Cathal Forkan’s photograph of The Claddagh, Galway is called “Waiting for the Tide.” 
Junior Category:
– 11 year old Mikey O’Regan’s photograph of Colclough Walled Garden, Tintern Abbey, Wexford. 
Runners Up
– 7 year old Rachel Buckley’s photograph called ‘Green grass of home’ along with the caption: “When I was smaller my wellies for playing in the garden were tiny but my wellies now are bigger and my mums wellies are much bigger and I’ll be in the garden in them in the future.” 
– 12 year old Matt Mc Donald’s photograph is of a reflective River Liffey in Dublin city, with a backdrop of the mosaic of colour and style of its neighouring buildings.
