Heritage Council National Heritage Week Event Awards
Welcome to the Heritage Council’s National Heritage Week Event Awards 2011. This is our second year having the awards which showcase the best of National Heritage Week and recognise the fantastic work of all the event organisers and volunteers that take part. We had a great response last year and hope that even more event organisers will take part in the awards this year.
Please read the following information carefully and scroll to the end to download the entry form.
Any National Heritage Week Event Organiser can enter. Categories are broken down as follows:
- Best Overall Event
- Best Event Organised By a Community Group/ENGO/Individual
- Best Children’s Event (under 12’s)
- Best Interactive Event
- Most Innovative Event
Entry Guidelines
Who can enter?
Anyone that is responsible for organising an event during National Heritage Week.
Does it cost anything to enter?
No, entry is completely free.
What to I need to do to enter?
1. Choose the categories you want to enter (you can enter your event into any number of categories except Best Overall Event)
2. Submit your entry following the submission guidelines below

Entries to be returned by 5 p.m. Friday 16th of September 2011.
Entries which do not adhere to the submission guidelines will be immediately disqualified.
Submission Guidelines
- Complete the Award Entry Form as per the instructions on the form.
- Submit two high resolution jpeg images of your event to heritageweek@heritagecouncil.ie
- Images must be clearly identifiable by their event title.
- Images of children where they are clearly recognisable should only be with their parents consent.
- If entering an event into more than one category you must provide a separate entry form for each category you wish to enter.
- All entries MUST be typed. Hand written entries will be immediately disqualified.
- Provide concise and coherent information.
- Entries to be returned by 5 p.m. Friday the 16th of September 2011.
Categories & Criteria
Best Overall Event
You cannot enter this award directly as the shortlist will be selected by the judging panel from all the entries received.
Best Event Organised By a Community Group/Individual/ENGO
Any Community Group/Individual/ENGO can enter this category.
Best Children’s Event (under 12’s)
This category is open to any group hosting events for the under 12s. Judging criteria will be based on what the objectives of the event were, what methods were used to engage the children in the subject matter and what the outcome was.
Best Interactive Event
This category is open to any group involved in National Heritage Week. Judging criteria will be based on how your audience engaged with the subject and how you encouraged them to actively participate in your event, be it a talk, walk, exhibition, concert, play, display or workshop.
Most Innovative Event
This category is open to any group involved in National Heritage Week and judging criteria will be based on how inventive and original the idea for your event is. This relates to how the event was executed. For example was there anything unusual or different about the way you approached your event subject to capture the public’s imagination and draw them in.
Judging & Awards
Judges will have collective experience and expertise in Heritage & Events. Winners details will be sent to national and regional press with a press release. Full details of winners and runners up will also be published on the National Heritage Week website www.heritageweek.ie and Face Book and Twitter pages also on the Heritage Council website www.heritagecouncil.ie An awards presentation will take place at the Heritage Council Office in Kilkenny later in the year. Dates will be provided in advance.
Terms and Conditions
By entering the Heritage Council National Heritage Week Awards you agree to the following terms and conditions:
- The closing date for entry is the 16th of September. Late entries cannot be received under any circumstances.
- You can enter as many categories as you like, but you must complete a form for each category.
- The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence shall be entered into.
- The Heritage Council has the right to use any material submitted for entry for the future promotion and publicity of National Heritage Week.
- Images of children where they are clearly recognizable must only be provided with the consent of their parents.
- Any submissions which do not adhere to the submission guidelines will be automatically discarded.
- No responsibility can be accepted for entries that are not received for any reason.
