About Us
Welcome to the Heritage Councils National Heritage Week website. The Heritage Council seeks to protect and enhance the richness, quality and diversity of our national heritage for everyone. We work with our partners, particularly at a local level to increase awareness of Irelands national heritage and to highlight it’s importance to public policy and everyday life.

The Heritage Council assumed the role of coordinator of National Heritage Week from the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government in 2005. Since then the week has grown into a highly successful programme of over 1000 events which take place during the last week of August each year.
National Heritage Week 2011 will run from the 20th to the 28th of August.
