National Heritage Week 2010 will take place between the 21st and 29th of August.

Every year during Heritage Week over 1000 events take place throughout Ireland with events ranging from from night time bat walks, music recitals, poetry readings, historical walks, talks and re-enactments to whale watching, medieval festivals, children’s activities and wildlife and bio-diversity events.

If you'd like to register an event for Heritage Week 2010 and have your event included in the National Heritage Week event guide please register your event online by the end of May.

The Heritage Week event guide is distributed nationwide in the following locations:

  • Failte Ireland Tourist Offices
  • Libraries
  • OPW Sites
  • Heritage Centres & Historical Societies
  • CNCI Members
  • NPWS Sites
  • Heritage Officers and County Councils
  • An Oige Hostels
  • Museums
  • Bus Eireann Stations
  • Various Hotels

Heritage Week is co-ordinated in Ireland by the Heritage Council in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, and is part of European Heritage Days, which is celebrated in over 40 countries across Europe.

As the countdown begins to Heritage Week 2009 (22nd - 30th August), the Heritage Council has issued a reminder for organisers to register their event online or by post before May 31st in order to be included in the Heritage Week 2009 Event Guide.
